Dads deserve to smell nice too – so head to Floris.

WITH Father’s Day just around the corner, it feels rather fitting to be suggesting the ultimate gift from one of the oldest stores in London.Floris

I am referring to the British perfumer, Floris, which was founded in 1730 and is still located at its beautiful Jerymn Street address in London today.

My memories of Floris go back to an early age, exploring the ornate bathroom cabinets of my grandmothers, in search of her delicately fragranced perfume to steal a spray, finding that beautifully wrapped, heavenly-scented Rose Geranium Floris soap – just like an English rose garden.

And my grandmother was in good company, fellow aficionados included both Hollywood royalty – Marilyn Monroe and fashion royalty – Isabella Blow. I always knew my grandmother had impeccable taste.

Floris boast an incredible list of legendary customers from over its long history, including Sir Winston Churchill who purchased Special No 127 and Stephanotis both of which are still available today.

And probably their most talked about customer in recent years is Ian Fleming. You only have to type it into Google to see his story.

His proximity to the Jermny Street store made him a regular at Floris, with No 89, named after the store’s address, his favourite and I can understand why. Its exquisite notes of orange and bergamot, lavender and neroli make it difficult to resist.

And Fleming was such a fan that Floris is referenced on a number of occasions in his James Bond novels with fans listing it as the scent of Bond himself.

So if it’s good enough for 007 then it has to be the perfect Father’s Day gift served shaken, not stirred, of course, and with its production here in the UK, this really is the ultimate British Product.

But if that’s not enough to tempt you and you’re looking to really spoil him – or yourself for that matter – then why not try the Bespoke Fragrance Customisation or Bespoke Perfume Design experience.

Yes, you can work WITH the Floris team to create your very own fragrance and yes I was lucky enough to do so and yes, all thanks to my husband again for getting another gift so brilliantly right!

It came as a rather luxurious Valentine’s present the year of our wedding, a complete surprise and quite literally the icing on the choccywoccydoodah cake in the build up to the big day, making the experience even more perfect.

The afternoon of my two-hour consultation arrived and I promptly made my way to the Jerymn Street shop. As I entered the premises my senses were instantly struck by the beautiful notes in the air of Floris’ many classic fragrances. And as I took in the beautiful surrounding it was literally like stepping back in time.

After making my presence known, I was ushered into the back room (was this a feeling of Deja vu, sorry but that’s another story all together) I entered an equally splendid setting. Here I met the perfumer who would work her scented magic and in two hours would have me floating out the store and along Jerymn Street on a high of bespoke British perfume.

The experience did not disappoint. First came the history of Floris and along with it a look at the books, yes, their long history is very well documented with handwritten logs of customer purchases listing the great and legendary that have graced Floris throughout its 280 years plus history.

It’s clear why Floris has been going as long as it has and why it received the Royal stamp of approval.

We discussed my likes and dislikes, fragrances of course, this wasn’t a therapy session and then the experience truly began.

I was taken on a tour of the history and origins of every essential oil and my senses awakened. I breathed in the aroma of so many ingredients, like a Michelin starred experience for the nose and created a shortlist for the perfumer to work her magic, creating me my bespoke Floris perfume in all its scented splendour.

It really was the ultimate experience and the finished product, beautifully packaged in its gold Floris presentation box, housing my very own perfume, was glorious.

The finished product with its beautiful summer notes will forever remind me of our wonderful wedding day. Yes, I have to say, he did it again and got it oh so right. This blog is doing wonders for my husband’s ego!

So if you are looking for a perfect British gift for Father Day, a very British birthday or anniversary gift or the perfect pre wedding experience to give your special day a very memorable note, then head to Floris for a truly exquisite British Product.
