There is nothing quite like an English summer, all be it a very hot one this year, why on earth I thought it was a great idea to finally dig up the flower beds and spend a small fortune of new plants, just as the heat wave hit! At least my rather beautiful watering can from the wonderful British Heritage Brand, Haws, is being put to good use and my green fingered credentials are finally establishing themselves. OMG, I have become my mother! An overnight horticultural expert in the making, or at least until my botanicals waver. But seriously, all this sun and a garden full of British blooms and I have the perfect excuse for a very British summer garden party. OK, so now I sound like Margot from the good life! Help!
Thankfully the fizz is on chill, as I deal with my inner Margot, and I might even roll out the Pimm’s as it would be rude not to in this heat, and there is no question when it comes to the attire, like I need an excuse to dress up! Actually I do with all this green fingered talk I seriously need a manicure and much as I’m loving the tan, I seriously need to ditch the daisy dukes for something a little more sophisticated. And so my designer of choice for such an occasion, well there can only be one to give me my perfect Alice in wonderland moment and it simply has to be the wonderfully creative, British designer, Alice Temperley, of Temperley of London.
The Temperley of London brand launched in 2000, just one year after Alice Temperley graduated from the Royal Collage of Arts and she also attended the globally renowned Central St Martins. She very quickly caught the attention of fashion world, making her mark on the global fashion scene with her exquisitely imagined grown up party gowns. Her style, a nod to vintage glamour with just the right balance of fun and sophistication to make it every fashionista’s go to.
In 2011 Alice Temperley received an MBE and she has long been a favourite British designer of Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa, as well as being a designer of choice on many a red carpet.
Yes, whether it’s a wedding or a party or something fabulous somewhere in between, nothing quite congers up that sense of British vintage summer glamour, like a Temperley of London dress, so why look any further? Now all I need is to track down the allusive White Rabbit who appears in South West London on the first of each month and find myself a rather mad hatter for the weekend, possibly a Jane Taylor floral head band to finish off my look and I think we have the beginnings of a party!
Although, for now I’ll settle for a little of Lewis Carroll’s, Alice in Wonderland as inspiration, as I step outside to plan the perfect British garden party, in this glorious evening sun and decide which wonderful Temperley of London creation I’m going to wear!
